What does it really mean to “have enough?” Have you ever thought about what “enough” means for you? We are usually so busy “doing” life that we don’t take time to think about what life really means for us. So I’m going to challenge you to challenge consumerism. That’s right! Our society is built on consumerism, which often leads to debt and unhappiness. Let’s challenge that and consider what we are buying before we buy it, whether it’s a service or an item. Ask yourself: “Is this worth the amount of time I will work to pay for this item?” Is this pair of jeans worth 4 hours of work? or “Does this make me happy in the long-term?” “Does this align with my values?”
Here’s another way to consider our expenditures. We need to WANT something that requires MORE than the thing we may buy. So that is what I measure my expenses around. I WANT to live in France for a year, so do I need to buy new jewelry now or save that money and put it towards my France trip? OR, I want to put my child through college debt-free, so every discretionary expense is measured against the want of debt-free college. OR, I want to retire at age 55, so every discretionary expense is measured against that want of early retirement.
Think about your life and what it really means to have enough! You can buy your freedom with frugality!! Cheers!!
